Hazardous material storage lockers are specially designed and constructed cabinets that are used to store hazardous materials or flammable paints. These lockers are required when storing hazardous materials in certain quantities and arrangements. Even if they are not required, it is considered best safety practice to store hazardous materials and flammable paints in such lockers. The types of materials stored in such lockers include, but are not limited to flammable liquids, corrosive liquids, flammable paints, flammable gases, flammable solids, and toxic liquids. Finally, materials that are incompatible (i.e., in terms of being able to react violently with each other) are stored in separate lockers separated by the appropriate distances
When highly flammable liquids or gases are stored within these lockers, there is a potential of a fire hazard. Fire hazards exist when containers are left open, when containers spill within the locker from external forces or when someone is moving individual containers, and when containers leak or vent into the locker. An ignition source would also have to be introduced into the lockers for a fire hazard to fully realize. Ignition could come from a static electricity spark, someone inadvertently creating a spark by striking a metal implement on to the metallic surface of the locker or exposing a flammable atmosphere to an electrical device that is not rated to be safe in an explosive atmosphere.
Stat-X® Condensed Aerosol Fire Suppression Systems are a turnkey solution to providing fire protection within hazardous material and flammable paint storage lockers. They contain a fire detection mechanism to activate the system, a control panel, and fire suppression heads. Stat-X is modular so it can be sized and configured to suit every size and type of storage locker. Stat-X provides rapid suppression by interrupting the chemical chain reaction.
