Family of Three Escapes Apartment Fire
Apr 16, 2014
Blandinsville assistant fire chief, Roger Moore, says crews responded to an apartment complex at 300 W. Breckenridge Street around 8:30 a.m. Moore says flames were visible on the structure’s exterior when crews arrived. Heavy smoke was also coming out of vents on the roof.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly after using Stat-X First Responder®, which Moore says is new technology hand deployed device.
“You pull a pin off and throw it in the fire,” Moore said. “It’s a new tool we have that helps knock down the fire.”
The three people in the apartment weren’t hurt. There were also approximately eight people in other apartments at the time. Firefighters did evacuate those tenants as a precaution.
Moore says the fire started under a deck outside of the apartment. The flames then spread into the apartment.
The incident is not considered suspicious, but the Blandinsville Fire Department will continue to investigate.
