Lesson Learned – an unfortunate incident spurs better fire safety plan
Jul 26, 2018
Stat-X® fire suppression systems have been installed to protect the engine and hydraulic enclosures on a several tower cranes in Australia. The protection of tower cranes came about when one erected close to Melbourne partly collapsed after catching on fire, as seen in this news website: https://tinyurl.com/y7q8zoxx
The fire suppression installation utilizes the Kidde Australia developed light vehicle control panel that provides 24-hour protection of the equipment whether it is manned or unmanned, as long as the external backup battery to the crane provides enough power to the system. Design concentration is based on 250g/cum and protects the enclosed engine and hydraulic unit in the machinery space on the crane.
