Stat-X manual units are released by pulling a cable handle installed at the entry to the protected space. A single generator can protect a small enclosure, and several generators can be linked to one pull so that a larger space is flooded from a single action. No releasing panel, detector, wiring, or external power is required, and the agent is stored at the point of discharge.

Nine models from 30 g to 1,000 g of aerosol suit smaller enclosures where personnel are present to respond. The generators are listed by UL and ULC to UL 2775 for Class A (surface), Class B, and Class C fires, and the agent is listed under the U.S. EPA SNAP program for total flooding in normally occupied and unoccupied spaces.

On an agent weight basis, the aerosol is about ten times more effective than gaseous agents. Far less agent is needed for a given volume, so the generators are small enough to mount inside the enclosure and need no cylinders, piping, or nozzles.

How it works

On actuation, a solid potassium-based compound inside the generator undergoes a controlled reaction that produces an ultra-fine condensed aerosol. The aerosol passes through cooling filters and discharges at low pressure, distributes through the enclosure in the manner of a gas, and interrupts the chemical chain reaction of combustion rather than removing oxygen. It remains suspended for several minutes to guard against re-ignition. In manual units, the reaction is started by pulling the cable handle. See How Stat-X works.

Nine models: 30T (30 g), 60T and 60MT (60 g), 100T (100 g), 250T and 250MT (250 g), 500T (500 g), and 1000T and 1000MT (1,000 g), each fitted with a manual cable-pull actuator. MT models contain the same aerosol mass as the T model of the same number in a different housing size; dimensions are in the general specifications table.

Generator housing. Exterior and interior stainless steel shells separated by an insulating material, with a stainless steel top and bottom. The housing is sealed with a non-permeable membrane, includes a mechanical means of rupturing the membrane on activation, and is non-pressurized before activation.

Finish. Brushed stainless steel.

Aerosol agent. Potassium-based. Fifteen-minute time-weighted-average test data from an independent U.S. laboratory show that, at normal design application densities, the aerosol does not produce harmful levels of CO, CO2, or NOx by NIOSH criteria. The agent has zero ozone depletion potential, zero global warming potential, and zero atmospheric lifetime, and is listed under the U.S. EPA SNAP program for total flooding in normally occupied and unoccupied spaces.

Manual actuator. Cable-pull actuator with a pull handle mounted at the entry to the protected space. Several generators can be linked to one pull.

Systems are designed by authorized Stat-X distributors using Fireaway’s listed design program, which applies the enclosure volume, leakage, hazard class, and a 30% safety factor in accordance with NFPA 2010. Generators mount inside the enclosure and the cable is routed to a pull handle outside the space, so that the person releasing the system is not inside it.

Generators are non-pressurized and single-use, so there is no cylinder weighing, pressure check, or hydrostatic testing. Periodic inspection is a visual check of the generators, the cable run, and the protected space. Service life is 15 years, after which generators are replaced.

Installation and maintenance

Where the space is attended, a fire is likely to be seen quickly, and a detection and releasing system is not required. Where the space may be unattended, the thermal or thermal/manual units add automatic release.

Several generators can be linked to a single cable pull. Your distributor sizes the system and the cable run for the enclosure.

Yes. The pull handle is installed at the entry so the system is released from outside the space. The agent is listed under the U.S. EPA SNAP program for normally occupied spaces, and standard fire procedures still apply: leave the space, release the system, keep the space closed for the hold time, and ventilate it before anyone re-enters.
